OUR VÉRITÉ PROJECT PRESENTS AN INTIMATE LOOK AT THE DREAMS AND STRUGGLES OF FOUR YOUNG AFGHAN JOURNALISTS IN THE AFGHAN VOICES TRAINING PROGRAM. THEY ARE LEARNING THE OFTEN INTIMIDATING TASK OF FINDING THEIR VOICE AS BROADCAST JOURNALISTS AND FILMMAKERS AMIDST TURMOIL, CIVIL WAR AND INSECURE FUTURES. ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE IN PRESENT-DAY AFGHANISTAN.
The film's main characters live in Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif, although we expect to visit Bamyan, Kandahar and other parts of the country during our shoot. Born during the Taliban regime, educated for one year in the United States, and part of a new generation of modern Afghans, our characters have returned home hoping that they can use journalism to make changes in Afghanistan. We follow them through the ups and downs of their training and actual assignments. In the process we get a never-before-seen, intimate view of the everyday life of young Afghans.
